  • Munnar is famous for its profuse green tea and the plantations of coffee. It is a hill station which is located at eastern Kerela. This town situated at the antipode of the 3 mountain streams that are named as Kudala, Nallathanni and Mudrapuzha. It is a neat and clean town with a bright ambience. This hill station is located near the highest peak (i.e. Anaimudi Peak) of the Western Ghats. The hills offer great scenery due to its variety of blooming flowers.

    The places all over are covered with awe struck landscapes and the cool and quiet atmosphere is the best for spending a summer vacation here. Not only the tea and coffee plantations or the cool ambiance attracts the visitors but also the Colonial establishments. Pothamedu is popular for trekking and hiking, Attukal for its panoramic waterfalls and trekking, Rajamala for its natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr are some of its famous tourist hot spots.

    Sights near Munnar:

    1) Mattupetty Dam: The dam is located at the distance of 13kms from Munnar city. The main purpose of building this dam is to store water for the hydroelectric projects. It lies between hill ranges of Munnar. It is also said to be one of the waterholes where the elephants in the region often visit.

    2) Mattupetty dairy farm: this is another main attraction in town for tourists. It is popular among travelers because of its Indo-swiss farm as it comes under the Indo-swiss Livestock Project.

    3) Echo Point: The echo point is situated at 15kms from Munnar. The place is very beautiful and interesting especially among kids. Here if you scream loud after few seconds you can hear your echo back which makes kids happy.

    4) Lakkom waterfalls: It is located at the distance of 25kms from the town, place is popular as Udumalaipettai. Lakkom waterfalls is part of Eravikulam National Park.
