    NEW YORK:The prolific character actor, James Rebhornwhose credits included”My Cousin Vinny”,”Scent of a Woman” and “Homeland” dies at 65.

    Dianne Busch, Rebhorn’s agent said that the actor lost his long battlewith skin cancer Friday nightat his home in South Orange, New Jersey. She further detailed the high spirit of Rebhorn be telling that it was 1992 when hewas diagnosed with melanoma but he managed to work until the last month.

    He worked in the film and television industry for five decades and amassed more than 100 credits ranging from the prosecutor in the TV comedy’s series finale “Seinfeld”, wherein he famously sent the group to jail to a shipping magnate in the Matt Damon film “The Talented Mr Ripley”.

    Rebhorn, a lanky but intense actor raised a Lutheran in Indiana,astringent authorities, such as the secretary of defence in “Independence Day” a film that came in the year 1996 or the headmaster in “Scent of a Woman” the film which came in the year 1992.

    He played the role of a father of CIA officer, Carrie Mathison on Showtime’s “Homeland”. Further he also had the repeated role on”White Collar”the USA Network seriesplaying the head of an FBI white-collar crime unit. His film credits also include The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012), Real Steel (2011), Cold Mountain(2003), Far From Heaven (2002), The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle (2000), Meet the Parents (2000), Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), Independence Day (1996), The Game (1997), Guarding Tess (1994), Lorenzo’s Oil (1992), Basic Instinct (1992), Shadows and Fog (1991), Regarding Henry (1991), Desperate Hours (1990), The House on Carroll Street (1988) and Silkwood (1983).

    Born in Philadelphia, received his masters in acting from Columbia University, also worked in Theater in the original 1985 production of “I’m Not Rappaport”, “12 Angry Men” and starring on Broadway in revivals of “Our Town,”.

    He is survived by his two daughters and his loving wife, Rebecca Linn.
