LONDON:An open verdict is recorded on Thursday by a British coroner in the demise of Boris Berezovsky, saying that he is unable to prove the Russian oligarch had meant to take his life.
    Boris Berezovsky
It was in the locked bathroom of a mansion in Ascot, near Londonthat Boris Berezovsky, 67, was found lying in the floor with a cord around his neck in March 2013.

Investigation that was held for two consecutive days revealed that the Kremlin insider-turned-critic, was frequently found talking about suicide. It was broken after he lost the legal battle against Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

On the other side, Elizaveta, his daughter gave evidence by saying that her father thought that he might have been poisoned. In addition to this a medical expert saidthe tycoon could have been choked.

His family members didn’t give any comment on the judgement as they left the court in Windsor.

Peter Bedford, the coroner said that the evidence very “contradictory” and beyond all reasonable doubt he is unable to prove whether it was a suicide case of a murder. He said, “I am not saying Mr Berezovsky took his own life, I am not saying Mr Berezovsky was unlawfully killed. What I am saying is that the burden of proof sets such a high standard it is impossible for me to say.” He further said, “It is clear to me and the witnesses I have heard that it (the damages claim) had a significant effect not only on his finances but also on his mental health.”

Looking at the past history of Berezovsky, he survived at least two assassination attempts. There can be chances that he was murdered but there are yet no evidence found of the foul play. Simon Poole, Home Office pathologist, who carried out the autopsy report, couldn’t found any evidence of struggling. She said: “These injuries were extensively looked for.”

Alexander Litvinenko, a Russian dissident and Berezovsky were friends and the former was murdered with radioactive polonium in London in 2006, and had been due to testify at Litvinenko’s own inquest.

As per Elizaveta’s statement, she suspect that her father was poisoned after Abramovich court battle, as he spoke of feeling a chemical imbalance.

LONDON: In order to prevent the growing number of unwanted pregnancies in teens, the schools of UK have been advised to make condoms and morning-after pills freely available to the teenage girls.
Free Contraceptives to be given to UK Schoolgirls

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) set up the new guidelines according to which individuals under the age of 25 should be able to access emergency contraception more readily, including the IUD (intrauterine device, or coil) and pills. According to the statement given by the NICE, In Europe, England has the highest teen pregnancy rates, though under-18 conception rates have fallen.

Commissioners of services in England got an advice from NICE to give access to contraception to all young people even at the convenient locations so that the service is not denied due to the location where they live.

Director of the Centre for Public Health at NICE, Prof. Mike Kelly said, “It is really important that sexual health services offering information and advice can be found in places where young people have access to them”. He further said, “Evidence clearly shows that the availability of contraception reduces the rate of unwanted pregnancies. Local planners and providers of services must make sure that what they offer is right for their area,”

The guidelines says that it should be informed to the young women that the more effective form of emergency contraception is an intrauterine device instead of the oral method. It can be used on an on-going basis.

Kelly said, “Young people often find contraceptive services and advice difficult to locate. This can be for a number of reasons. They may not know where services are, who provides them or when they are open”. He further added, “They can also be wrongly worried that information they give may not be treated confidentially. For that reason, this guidance focuses on ensuring they receive culturally sensitive, confidential, non-judgemental and empathic advice and support tailored to their individual needs”

Most of the recommendations made in the new guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence won’t cost anything in its implementation. The existing services need to be looked upon whether the support and advise the young generation want is been given to them or not.

Geoge Mallory's Everest trek axe on sale
The 1st serious attempt to climb the Everest was held in 1922. During the mission, Mallory with Howard Somervelland Major Edward Norton set the 1st altitude record on Everest on May 21, 1922. They reached a height of 26,800 feet, without the use of any supplementary oxygen.

His, another attempt with partner Andrew Irvine was on June 8th, 1924 when he covered a height of 26,700 feet on Everest. Momentarily they were seen about 1,000 feet below the summit after which the monsoon clouds moved in and both of them disappeared forever. It was in 1933 that his axe was found andMallory’s body was discovered in 1999.

They left an unsolved question in the records of History, whether Irvine and Mallory climb Everest before Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary?
In the view of UK’s mountaineering community, Mallory’s axe being the part of British history’must be kept in Britain’. The community is worried that it will be bought by the US buyer.
After when he disappeared on Everest, it is believed that Ruth, his wife donated a few of his equipment to the Pinnacle Climbing Club – the first women’s climbing club. It was formed at a time when mountaineering was very much a male preserve.Nancy Carpenter, a pioneering mountaineer (with a few routes in the Scottish Highlands and Alps to her credit) and an early member of the club got the possession of the axe.
Nancy moved to Matterdale End in the Lake District, in her 80’s, where she actively encouragedWilliam, the son of her neighbours (a family from Threlkeld)formountaineering and Lakeland fells and gave him the axe in order to save his money to buy for an ice axe. She told his the story behind that axe to make him realize how much importance that axe hold, but unfortunately he was killed in 1985 in a traffic accident. After which his family decided that the most appropriate place for the axe was National Mountaineering Exhibition.

The challenge of ageing is layered on top of economic recession in the world’s rapidly graying nation Japan. About 40 percent of the people of Kamagasaki are 65 or older and can’t keep up with construction work as they get old. Japan’s largest slum is just visible on blocks bustling from food chains and shops in Osaka, the country’s second-biggest city but does not appear anywhere in film fest or on official maps. Nor it is found in the current Osaka Asian Film Festival, after the director of a new released film that is established in the region pulled it, claiming city organizers of censorship.

The scenes and lingo that depict the slum was asked to be removed by the Osaka officials on the grounds that it was insensitive to the natives and residents that probably seems to be a cover-up attempt to make this area non-existent.

However this place is Kamagasaki that accommodates around 25,000 people in the compact area rendering home to jobless and homeless and day laborers. Where dozens of economically cheap dorms charge as little as 800 yen ($8) per night, this slum is a place where one in three are on welfare providing most of the single men with free shelters.

The day at the welfare-employment center begins early, where thousands of people stand in a queue for labor work, primarily with subcontractors of Japan’s construction tycoons. Those not chosen, either line up for free food or resort to cheap alcohol otherwise stroll the backstreets pointlessly. The shelter less in the evening queue at the center to get tickets for lodging.

Ota’s movie, “Fragile,” highlights the story of a TV assistant director who quits his job one day after quarrel with his girlfriend and his colleague. He moves to Kamagasaki to make a movie about a teenage boy, and whether success and money are essential for happiness.Ota said that Osaka officials wanted scenes of recognizable landmarks of the slum like illegal garbage dumping , the park popular for squatters or protagonist getting an amphetamine injection from a drug dealer and various others to be deleted . The slang words such as “doya” (cheap accommodations) were omitted too.

Kazumitsu Oue the Osaka official said that the film festival organizers were aimed to save the slum area and its residents from publicizing to prejudice as they felt the movie lacks consideration to the area and its people.

By far “Fragile” is only been shown at private screenings in Tokyo and Osaka.

LONDON: With the announcement of Mayor Boris Johnson of investing £100 million fund in cycling to create what is being called a ‘mini-Holland’ revolution, London is seeing a vast difference in its earlier face.
Massive Push Given to cycling in London
Since 2001, the cycling on the main road of London has risen by 173%. Looking at this, it has being announced by the government that this number should be doubled by next decade.

This ‘mini-Holland’ plan covers the outer boroughs of all 8 cities. They finally got the funding for transformative and substantial changes to form cyclist friendly streets. Out of these 8, three boroughs – Waltham Forest, Kingston and Enfield have been selected for complete mini-Holland status, with an amount receiving up to £30 million each.

A series of measures are focused on creating cycle-friendly low-traffic neighbourhoods in order to improve cycling in residential areas in Waltham Forest. Moreover, a semi-segregated superhighway route will be developed.

A major cycle hug will be formed in Kingston with the transformation of plaza outside Kingston station. There will be the introduction of new high-quality cycling routes together with a Thames Riverside Boardway.

Enfield Town centre will entirely be reformed, with three cycle hubs distributed across the borough and separated superhighways linking key destinations.

Johnson shared his thought on the same saying, “I have been incredibly impressed with the standard of the mini-Holland entries and by the thirst among all the finalists to transform themselves into better places for people. It has been so hard to choose between them that I have decided that all shall have prizes. Areas once terra incognita for the bicycle will, over time, become every bit as cycle-friendly as their Dutch equivalents – places that suburbs and towns all over Britain will want to copy.”

Moreover, Kingston Council’s lead member, Councillor Simon James said, “We are delighted that our ambitious bid has been successful. Ours is a cycling vision for everyone with a blend of exciting, iconic schemes and high-quality, everyday infrastructure. Kingston already has one of the highest rates of cycling in outer London and we will be able to give even more people the opportunity to enjoy the environmental, social, health and economic benefits of living in a Biking Borough.”
