LONDON:An open verdict is recorded on Thursday by a British coroner in the demise of Boris Berezovsky, saying that he is unable to prove the Russian oligarch had meant to take his life.

It was in the locked bathroom of a mansion in Ascot, near Londonthat Boris Berezovsky, 67, was found lying in the floor with a cord around his neck in March 2013.

Investigation that was held for two consecutive days revealed that the Kremlin insider-turned-critic, was frequently found talking about suicide. It was broken after he lost the legal battle against Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

On the other side, Elizaveta, his daughter gave evidence by saying that her father thought that he might have been poisoned. In addition to this a medical expert saidthe tycoon could have been choked.

His family members didn’t give any comment on the judgement as they left the court in Windsor.

Peter Bedford, the coroner said that the evidence very “contradictory” and beyond all reasonable doubt he is unable to prove whether it was a suicide case of a murder. He said, “I am not saying Mr Berezovsky took his own life, I am not saying Mr Berezovsky was unlawfully killed. What I am saying is that the burden of proof sets such a high standard it is impossible for me to say.” He further said, “It is clear to me and the witnesses I have heard that it (the damages claim) had a significant effect not only on his finances but also on his mental health.”

Looking at the past history of Berezovsky, he survived at least two assassination attempts. There can be chances that he was murdered but there are yet no evidence found of the foul play. Simon Poole, Home Office pathologist, who carried out the autopsy report, couldn’t found any evidence of struggling. She said: “These injuries were extensively looked for.”

Alexander Litvinenko, a Russian dissident and Berezovsky were friends and the former was murdered with radioactive polonium in London in 2006, and had been due to testify at Litvinenko’s own inquest.

As per Elizaveta’s statement, she suspect that her father was poisoned after Abramovich court battle, as he spoke of feeling a chemical imbalance.
